Best Tradify alternatives for Australian trade businesses

If you are searching for a Tradify alternative, the honest answer is that the right one depends almost entirely on how you are billed. Tradify charges per user per month. ServiceM8 charges by how many jobs you run. Simpro quotes you individually. Get that wrong and a two-person shop ends up on a plan built for a twelve-person one. This page lists ten genuine alternatives — trade software, tradie apps and full job-management platforms that Australian businesses actually shortlist — with what each one is good at, what it is not, and where the money goes. If you are searching for apps for tradies rather than a whole back office, the sole-trader section below is the one to read first.

Ownership disclosure up front: Opsler publishes this page and Opsler is one of the ten. It is listed alphabetically alongside everyone else, it sits seventh, and it carries a stated limitation just like every other entry. If a comparison page will not tell you who wrote it, close it.

How we selected and checked the alternatives

Every vendor on this list had to clear four bars: it has to be sold to Australian trade businesses, it has to cover more than one step of the enquiry-to-invoice workflow, it has to be plausible for a team under about fifty people, and its own website has to say enough for us to describe it accurately.

Prices come from each vendor’s own Australian pricing page, fetched on 4 August 2026. No figure on this page comes from a review directory, a comparison aggregator or a third-party estimate, because those go stale quietly and nobody tells you. Where a vendor does not publish a number, the table says “Not published” rather than filling the gap with a guess.

Ordering is alphabetical. That is the whole criterion, stated so you can check it: no weighting, no scoring, no house favourite floated to the top. The segment sections further down do the actual recommending, and they recommend different products to different businesses.

One vendor we could not re-check

Simpro’s pricing page returned a 403 error on every attempt on 4 August 2026, from both its global and Australian URLs. What is described here comes from research dated 30 July 2026 and is flagged as such. Treat Simpro’s entry as the least fresh on the page and confirm it directly.

Tradify baseline: who it suits and why teams switch

Tradify is a per-user product with three published Australian tiers as at 4 August 2026: Lite at A$48, Pro at A$52 and Plus at A$62 per user per month, each labelled Ex GST on Tradify’s own pricing page, plus a Custom tier you arrange by phone. It covers quoting from templates and price lists, scheduling and dispatch, timesheets, invoicing with automated reminders, and two-way syncing to Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks. There is a 14-day trial with no card required, and it runs on the web plus native iOS and Android apps.

That is a strong package, and Tradify reviews reflect it. Australian teams who switch away usually do so for one of four reasons, and it is worth working out which one is yours before you shortlist anything.

  • The per-user bill scaled faster than the work. Five people on Pro is A$260 a month before GST. If two of those five are part-time or seasonal, a job-volume model may cost less.
  • The business outgrew job-level thinking. Once you are running staged projects, retentions, asset registers or stock across a workshop, you are shopping in a different category — which is where AroFlo, Simpro and WorkGuru live.
  • The business went the other way. A sole tradie who quotes twenty jobs a month does not need three tiers of anything and often wants a free plan that does not expire.
  • A specific workflow did not fit. Heavy safety documentation, takeoff imports, or workshop job costing are all things other products build their whole product around.

If none of those describe you, the most useful outcome of this page might be staying on Tradify. That is a legitimate result of a comparison.

Comparison table: pricing unit, users, jobs and mobile access

Ten alternatives, alphabetically. The column that matters most is “Charged by” — it is what makes two products with similar headline prices produce bills that differ by hundreds of dollars a month.

Prices checked 4 August 2026 on each vendor’s own Australian pricing page, except Simpro (403 error; research dated 30 July 2026). GST treatment is stated by Tradify, NextMinute and Formitize as excluding GST; ServiceM8 does not state it. Jobber publishes USD only. Opsler bills in USD.

The head-to-head most Australian tradies search for is ServiceM8 vs Tradify, and the table above shows why it is genuinely close: A$29 a month for 50 jobs with unlimited users, against A$48 per user per month with unlimited jobs. Two people running 40 jobs a month pay A$29 on ServiceM8 Starter and A$96 on Tradify Lite. Two people running 200 jobs pay A$96 on Tradify and A$149 on ServiceM8 Premium. The crossover is real, it moves with your job count, and it is the single calculation worth doing before you shortlist anything else.

Best alternatives for sole tradies and very small teams

At one or two people the deciding factor is rarely features — most of these products will quote, schedule and invoice perfectly well. It is whether the monthly cost is proportionate to a month where you might only run fifteen jobs.

ServiceM8

The Free tier gives one user 30 jobs a month at no cost, and Starter is A$29 a month for 50 jobs with unlimited users and 100 SMS included. For a sole tradie with steady, low job volume this is often the cheapest credible option in the country. The catch is real though: a job credit is consumed when you create a job, unused credits expire at month end rather than banking, and a busy month can push you up a tier.

Opsler

The Budding plan is free forever and, unusually, is shaped for two people rather than one: 1 admin and 1 technician, 50 jobs a month, unlimited customers, 100 inventory items in 1 location and 21 core features. That matters if your partner does the books — most free tiers make you pay the moment a second person logs in. Moving up is US$25 per seat per month with no seat minimum and a 14-day trial that does not ask for a card. The Pro plan also adds route optimisation — a manual re-sequence of one technician’s day with promised appointment times left anchored — and GPS location stamps captured at en route, arrived and complete. Be clear-eyed about the trade-off: you are billed in US dollars, not Australian ones, accounting is an export-and-import rather than a live sync, and there is no live vehicle tracking of the kind AroFlo and Ascora offer.

Formitize

At A$29.99 per user per month excluding GST, this is the cheapest published per-user price on the list and it is Australian-headquartered. It earns its place if your real problem is paperwork — safety documents, compliance forms, sign-off sheets — rather than scheduling. Industry packs sit outside that base price, so confirm what your trade actually needs before comparing it like-for-like against Tradify Lite.

Best alternatives for growing field-service teams

Between roughly three and twenty people, the question changes. You now have someone in an office, work is being handed between people, and the cost of a job falling through a crack is higher than the software bill. This is where most tradie software shortlists get decided.

Fergus

Australian-focused and explicitly built for crews of 1–20, with Essentials from A$53 a month and Pro from A$77 a month, billed month to month with no setup fee and no lock-in. Its distinguishing features are supplier invoice matching, integrations with 100+ Australian suppliers, and job phases for progress claims. The word to watch in its pricing is “from” — your real figure depends on team size, so get it quoted.

Ascora

Australian since 2009 and pitched, in its own words, at 5–50 technicians running complex work. Multi-crew dispatch, multi-stage quoting, real-time job profitability, digital SWMS and JSA forms, an offline-capable field app and two-way syncing with Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks. There is a 14-day trial with no card. It publishes no pricing at all, which is the trade-off: you cannot compare it on cost without booking a conversation.

Jobber

A mature and well-documented product, and the pricing is transparent in a way worth noting precisely: Jobber’s own Australian pricing page states “All prices in USD”. Core runs US$29–49 a month for one user, Connect US$99–199 for five, Grow US$149–399 for ten, Plus US$399–699 for fifteen. If billing in US dollars rules out Opsler for you, it rules out Jobber for the same reason — worth knowing before you shortlist either.

Best alternatives for commercial and project-heavy work

If your work has stages, retentions, an asset register or a workshop attached to it, you have left the tradie apps category and entered a different market with different price points and a real implementation phase. Being honest about that boundary is more useful than pretending every product scales infinitely.

Simpro

The deepest option most Australian commercial contractors consider, covering projects, assets, inventory and multi-company structures. Pricing is personalised rather than published: you get a tailored quote, an initial setup fee scaled to implementation complexity, and add-ons priced separately. As noted above, its pricing page could not be re-fetched on 4 August 2026, so verify all of this directly. Expect a procurement process, not a signup form.

AroFlo

Australian-made and explicitly built to span sole traders through to teams of 40+ technicians, with asset management, compliance, inventory, GPS tracking and project work types alongside the standard job lifecycle. Native iOS and Android apps; integrates with Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, Stripe and Square. Like Ascora and Simpro, it publishes no pricing, so the demo is the only route to a number.

WorkGuru

Built for fabrication, manufacturing and trade service businesses that run a workshop as well as field work. A$350 a month covers the platform including 10 team members, with additional members at A$35 each. Inventory and stock control (+A$300/month), an automation suite (+A$200/month) and digital forms (+A$150/month) are separate modules — so the honest comparison is your fully configured price, not the headline.

NextMinute

Aimed squarely at residential construction firms with 3+ employees. Tradie Growth starts at A$199 a month for 3–9 users, Tradie Pro at A$349 for 10–14, and Tradie Max is custom for 15+, all in AUD excluding GST. Gantt scheduling, takeoff imports, variation management and cost tracking are the drawcards. The entry plan assumes three users, so it is poor value below that.

Accounting, GST, ABN and data-migration checks

This is the section that decides whether a switch is a weekend or a quarter, and it is the one comparison tables usually reduce to a tick.

“Integration” is not one thing

AroFlo, Ascora, Fergus, NextMinute and Tradify all describe two-way syncing with Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks — invoices and contacts moving automatically. Opsler does something narrower and we will not dress it up: it generates QuickBooks-formatted and Xero-formatted CSV files that you import yourself. There is no live connection and no automatic posting. Ask every vendor on your shortlist the same blunt question — does an invoice raised at 4pm appear in my accounting software without anyone touching it? — and accept the answer.

GST and your ABN

No software makes your invoices compliant. It stores what you configure. Two practical checks: first, confirm whether the subscription price you are comparing includes or excludes GST — Tradify, NextMinute and Formitize state Ex GST, ServiceM8 does not say either way on its published pages, and Jobber notes prices exclude sales tax where applicable. Second, confirm the invoice template can carry your ABN and present GST the way your accountant expects, and check the result against the ATO’s own tax invoice requirements rather than trusting a feature list. Opsler does not file GST, validate ABNs or certify tax invoices, and neither should you assume any other vendor here does.

Getting your data out

Before you migrate in, ask how you would migrate out. The questions that matter: can I export customers, jobs, quotes and invoices without a support ticket; do historical job photos come with it; and what happens to records if I cancel. Vendors that answer these easily are usually the ones worth trusting with three years of history.

How to run a two-week replacement test

Demos show you the happy path. A fortnight of real work shows you the rest. Run the same fortnight through your shortlist rather than reading more reviews.

  1. Days 1–2: load real data. Twenty real customers with real addresses, and your five most common jobs. Synthetic data hides exactly the problems you are testing for.
  2. Days 3–5: quote to acceptance. Build a quote the way you actually build one, send it to your own phone, and accept it as the customer would. Time it. Count the taps.
  3. Days 6–9: run jobs in the field. Have a technician work a real day on their own phone, including at least one site with poor reception. Note precisely what fails when the signal drops, because every vendor’s definition of “works offline” is different.
  4. Days 10–12: invoice and export. Raise invoices from completed work, then push them into your accounting software the way you would every month. This is where sync and export genuinely diverge.
  5. Days 13–14: price the real month. Take your actual headcount and your actual job count and calculate the annual cost on each product. Then add the add-ons you discovered you needed on day 7.

Most teams find the decision makes itself somewhere around day 9.

Frequently asked questions about Tradify alternatives

Compare the pricing unit before the number. Tradify charges per user per month (A$48 Lite, A$52 Pro, A$62 Plus, all shown Ex GST on its own Australian pricing page as at 4 August 2026). ServiceM8 charges by monthly job volume with unlimited users on every paid tier. Simpro quotes each business individually. WorkGuru sells a platform fee with users bundled in. Those four models produce wildly different bills for the same business, so price a realistic month — your actual headcount and your actual job count — rather than comparing headline figures. Then check three things most comparison tables skip: whether prices are quoted inclusive or exclusive of GST (Tradify says Ex GST; ServiceM8 does not state it either way), whether the app is native or runs in a browser, and whether accounting is a live two-way sync or a file you export and import yourself.

Two on this list have a free entry point, and they are free in different ways. ServiceM8's Free tier gives one user 30 jobs a month. Opsler's Budding plan is free forever with two seats — one admin and one technician — 50 jobs a month, unlimited customers, 100 inventory items across one location and 21 core features. Neither is a trial that expires. The practical difference is that ServiceM8's free tier is a single-user product, so the moment you add an office person you are on a paid plan; Opsler's free plan already covers that two-person shape. Everything else on this page starts paid, though Ascora, Fergus, Formitize, Jobber and Tradify all offer trials.

Not uniformly, and this is worth checking carefully because the word "integration" gets used loosely. AroFlo, Ascora, Fergus and NextMinute all describe two-way syncing with Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks. Tradify describes the same. Opsler is deliberately different and we would rather say so plainly than blur it: Opsler generates QuickBooks-formatted and Xero-formatted CSV files that you import yourself. There is no live connection, no automatic posting and no two-way reconciliation. For a business doing a monthly bookkeeping run that is a five-minute job; for a business that wants invoices appearing in Xero the moment they are raised, it is a real reason to choose someone else.

Every price on this page is a dated snapshot, not a live feed. Vendors change pricing without notice and promotional rates are not list prices. Re-check the two or three products you actually shortlist on their own websites before you commit.
